From Compassion Animals to Us

Yesterday we decided on a compassion animal (mine, a wolf), and then used the practices to build a visualization which represents compassion. Today, we’ll use the pronoun ‘you’ in order to receive compassion from our animals:

I practice compassion for you

With compassion, I free you from suffering
With compassion, I help you find peace and feel safe in this world
With compassion, I create contentment in your life
With compassion, I inspire you to flourish

With patience and good humour, I welcome your imperfections
With sympathy, I feel for your suffering
With empathy, I mind what you’re feeling and try to understand why

For you I seek wisdom,
I nurture a broad perspective of you
I foster gratefulness for you
And I acknowledge suffering and difficulties are part of your life

Thank you compassion wolf (be grateful to your visualized animal hahačść)

For my Compassion-Wolf

Once, as part of an exercise I read about, I brainstormed a safe-place and compassionate-helper animal. My place was around a fire at night, in a forest, and with a wolf (safe for me, I first stayed at a wilderness camp when I was six). I’ve since occasioned to visualize my compassion-wolf while reciting the compassion practices, reinforcing feelings of help and support that I can activate by visualizing the wolf. Let’s try practicing for our compassion animals:

I practice compassion for my compassion-wolf

With compassion, I free him from suffering
With compassion, I help him find peace and feel safe in this world
With compassion, I create contentment in his life
With compassion, I inspire him to flourish

With patience and good humour, I welcome my compassion wolf’s imperfections
With sympathy, I feel for his suffering
With empathy, I mind what he’s feeling and try to understand why

For my compassion-wolf, I seek wisdom
I nurture a broad perspective of him
I foster gratefulness for him
And I acknowledge that suffering and difficulties are part of his life

A part 2 for this visualization is upcomingčśä

Compassion Practice for Life Channel

Ten years ago I decided on a base mission for my life, to relieve the most amount of suffering possible, practicing compassion indiscriminately and without judgement for myself and others, and focusing on that suffering which I’m most able to relieve, even if that means mostly focusing on my own suffering first.

Since then I have developed these practices as a way to interrupt thinking and feeling patterns that I’m attempting to change, as a way to remind myself that I’m a peaceful and caring person, even when my thoughts and feelings would have me thinking otherwise, and as a way to better understand and tend to the relationships in my life.

For 2021, I’m publishing a variety of material, including my story on what drove me to these practices. Sharing my practices with others is the first step towards publishing my ideas, articles and books for 2021. The practices are my most practical and useful self-created knowledge that I can share.

Thank you for practicing with me,

Andrew
